The staff and students of DDF kicked off the competitive ballroom season by traveling to Covington, Kentucky the weekend of January 14 to attend the 2nd Annual Riverfront DanceSport Festival. Competing at the event were veteran students Jamie Wells, Heidi Lewis, Eileen Carman, Sandy Marino, Phyllis Thornton and Fran Sherowski, as well as two new faces to the DDF family, Cathy Tavenner and Sandy Ewing.
Jamie Wells received top honors as the Grand Champion of the Solo Division, as well as placing 1st in the Standard Scholarship Division. Heidi Lewis claimed the Grand Champion title in the Smooth Division, 1st Place Smooth Scholarship Divison, 2nd Place Standard Scholarship Division, and 2nd Place Rhythm Scholarship Division. Both of these lovely ladies are under the guidance of Josh Tilford. Eileen Carman, Sandy Marino and Fran Sherowski brought down the house in the Solo Division and received top honors as well.
After all the dancing was done, DDF took 2nd Place Top Studio overall. The following day, Josh Tilford and Ashley Wessel were honored to be asked to participate as demonstrators in workshops taught by the legendary Sam Sodano.
Congratulations to all our hardworking staff and students for such an impressive performance at the first ballroom competition of the year! We are looking forward to an exciting competition season in 2012. Next up, the Michigan Dance Challenge!
